Baroness Thatcher was today honored with a sombre but spectacular
funeral ceremony that paid tribute to the ‘courage and perseverance’ of
Britain's greatest peacetime prime minister.
An estimated 250,000 mourners lined the streets to pay tribute, and
broke into spontaneous applause, cheers and whistles of support that
rang around the streets of London as the coffin passed them.
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh attended the service, the first political funeral the Monarch has attended since Winston Churchill's in 1965.
